Job Description

The Pierce College Library Department provides information resources and reference assistance to students, faculty, staff and community members. The department includes four full-time faculty librarians and several adjunct librarians to assist in accessing this information and facilitating information competency, critical thinking, intellectual independence, and life-long learning skills. The college is completing construction of a new 59,000 sq. ft. Library Learning Center Crossroads building, which is slated to open Spring 2013.

The department seeks a dynamic, user-focused, forward-thinking individual to provide expertise in the effective integration of new technologies in library instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities

In accordance with its mission as a community college, instruction at Pierce College includes lower division courses. Faculty members at Pierce College are expected to facilitate student learning by designing varied and exciting learning environments. Evening and/or weekend classes may be scheduled based on department needs. In addition to the regular reference and instruction duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

? Participate in the development and the assessment of student learning outcomes (SLOs);
? Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in the discipline;
? Assist in the development of resources, materials, and strategies, including the use of multimedia technology (Pierce Online Moodle) to instruct students in a multicultural environment;
? Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college faculty, staff and students;
? Devote a minimum of five hours weekly to campus responsibilities (senate, accreditation, etc.);
? Investigate and implement emerging technologies;
? Provide online and in person library instruction services;
? Provide course-related library instruction;
? Assist in the production and maintenance of the library?s web page, various library guides, handouts, and instructional documents;
? Collaborate with other faculty to increase students? knowledge of library resources;
? Participate in collection development;
? Participate in development of library policies and procedures;
? Other library related duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

? Possess additional degree or coursework work in instructional technology, educational media, computer science, training and development;
? Experience in providing reference services in an academic environment;
? Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a college setting;
? Knowledge of automated library systems and electronic information resources;
? Demonstrated teaching and presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both new and experienced users;
? Knowledge of current and emerging library principles, practices, and technologies;
? Ability to develop and teach information competency classes and workshops;
? Demonstrated proficiency in HTML, CSS and Javascript;
? Strong written and oral communication skills;
? A willingness to accept varied responsibilities within the department and college.

The current starting range is from $47,600 to $74,110 for the 10-month academic year, depending on education and experience. The doctoral differential is $3,000 per academic year. The District provides an excellent benefit package including medical, vision, dental and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
