Associate Vice Chancellor For Student Affairs Administration ...

Job Description: Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, this position supports & assists the VC in administrative operations & serves as a liaison with internal & external constituents. With the high volume of special projects & responsibilities, the AVC is expected to work independently in carrying out the duties & responsibilities. The AVC will assess needs, develop operational plans & determine procedures for all aspects of SA; assist the VC in the development, implementation, & interpretation of divisionally-related policies & procedures; plan & organize the administration of the functional areas of the VC's Office; collect & analyze data needed for policy implementation, decision making, and project/program development implementation; prepare comprehensive reports, proposals, & presentations; effectively & persuasively present data to various management levels; analyze a variety of administrative problems and complex data; represent the VC at internal & external meetings; participate in key meetings, events, & programs; serve as a member of the Student Affairs Executive Council (SAEC); work closely with the SAEC, SA Leadership Team, & all areas within SA that directly impact the goals, objectives & mission of the division and university; provide fact finding & troubleshoot in areas of special interest for the VC; work on special projects & assignments independently after consultation with the VC including assisting in the preparation of grant proposals; provide oversight & supervision of other initiatives which enhance and promote the goals & objectives of the division in order to support the division's strategic direction; provide & manage proactive communications ensuring information flow to and from the VC's office to SA staff, University community & external constituents in a timely & efficient manner in order to help forge stronger relationships; coordinate assignments & reports from the VC's executive & leadership staff; conduct research of important issues & coordinate the production of briefing materials such as writing speeches, proposals, programs, or other materials for the VC or public dissemination; provide general administrative support to the VC as needed & requested and divisional supervision in the absence of the VC; assist with managing complex personnel situations; be responsible for ad hoc assignments from the VC related to university priorities, problem-solving, communications, team-building, & special assignments from the UNC-GA; oversee responses to student needs, questions, concerns & complaints that are directed to the VC; coordinate the 'content and context' of the SAEC meetings so they are purposeful, agendas are important, decisions are recorded, and implementation is successful; track, monitor and follow the progress of projects, action items, and strategies that emanate from various meetings; ensure planning for key committees & board meetings; other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to operate independently coupled with the ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion & confidentiality; possess the highest degree of professional integrity; manage & resolve ambiguous problems; supervise, oversee & evaluate positions & departments; work in a cooperative fashion with peers, subordinates & superiors; supervise & manage resources; provide leadership & direction; plan, coordinate, direct & evaluate the work of staff & relate well with people; establish cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties; bring together several viewpoints & ideas to a balanced position; interpret & operationalize vision & goals, and to develop short-term & long-range plans relative to SA services & programs. The candidate should have knowledge of integration of student development services & knowledge of principles & practices of management.

Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must hold at least a master's degree in an appropriate discipline. A terminal degree is preferred. The successful candidate must have significant and broad administrative experience and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional administrative and management/service experience. The Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs must have demonstrated skills in planning, organization, communication and team building skills and the ability to work with a variety of internal and external constituencies. The successful candidate must have excellent oral, written, listening and interpersonal skills. He or she must have a commitment to developing collaborative relationships. Experience in areas such as strategic planning, information gathering, and program development is preferred.
